Guillaume Belle – Crozes-Hermitage 2013
The wine is a beautiful garnet red with violet glints, demonstrating its youth.
Aromatically, the nose is immediately very expressive and expansive. The tone is set by almost creamy red and black fruit – then sweet spices, white pepper, peony and iris root augment its complexity. A short while later, balsamic and slightly saline, almost iodic notes come through and provide length.
The palate is impetuous, brash and feisty – betraying the wine’s youth. The medley of red and black fruit already sensed in the nose are even more fully expressed. The tannins are well present and while they could do with settling down a little, they promise a bright future.
The more mineral notes in the finish give a freshness that will allow the wine to mature another 2 to 3 years. Drink then with original dishes, full of character, combining contrasting flavours, such as tuna steak with capers, piperade or a land and sea risotto.
